An early Brahmi inscription has been identified on the rock ceiling of the temple image house. The inscription was copied in 1971 by the Department of Archaeology.[4]

Content: "The tank of the chief Tissa, son of the chief Abhaya was donated to the sangha of the four quartes present and absent, in the monastery of Acchagirika Tissa pabbata. The great King Gamini Abhaya dedicated Acchanagaraka and Tavirikiya-nagaraka to the monastery. These donations, the chief Abhaya, caused to be dedicated by the king to the sangha of the four quarters, present and absent"

Content: "Sabaya, the minister of king Gamini Abhaya (Gajaba) having exempted from taxes the hundred karises (400 amunas) of paddy land under Digalaka tank, donated it to Digalaka Vihara. Furthermore ten karises (40 amunas) of paddy land were offered for the activities of the Cetiya and one karisa (4 amunas) has been donated for lighiting lamp at the Stupa"
